Sigi, der Straßenfeger is a German comedy film from 1984 by Wolf Gremm with Harald Juhnke in the title role.

action

Sigi Stenz works as a street sweeper in Berlin and is actually quite satisfied with his modest and simple life. He is frugal and doesn't expect too much. One day he unexpectedly stumbles upon a box that is supposed to change his life from the ground up. After Sigi opened it, he found carefully bundled banknotes with a total value of 300,000 DM next to some Havana cigars. There is also a photo of Sigi's boss Baltuschek in intimate togetherness with a young, rich entrepreneur. Ironically, the lady by the name of Jane Wolf is applying by all means for major contracts from the city and is ready to distribute many a banknote.

Sigi takes a friend, originally from Sicily, into his trust. Together, the two get caught up in a vortex of misunderstandings, chases and blackmail attempts. Baltuschek and Jane, who soon gets to know Sigi and tries to bewitch him, try hard to get hold of both the money and the compromising photo. Sigi Stenz, not a food lover, likes to be ensnared by the pretty entrepreneur, and soon the mutual watching turns into more: the ripped off Jane Wolf begins to fall in love with the simple Berlin street sweeper. On the other hand, buddy Luigi and Sigis kesse's daughter Willi, whose most important quality is a cheeky mouth, have some objections, and they try to sabotage the looming romance between these two so unequal people as best they can.

In the meantime, Sigi's boss Baltuschek tries with ever greater emphasis to get back "his" corruption sums and turns out to be not exactly squeamish in his approach and the choice of his means. With a lot of cunning and trickery, however, Sigi can shake off the street sweeper boss who is stalking him, but also has to do with a penetrating sensational journalist. Sigi makes use of many a masquerade in his ingenious “escape attempts”, and in the end he also finds his personal happiness in love.

Reviews

Harald Juhnke himself was more than disappointed with the result and blamed the director for it, as he revealed in an interview with Spiegel about his long career as a theater, film and television artist in early 1993 : “Nobody knew what he was doing should do me from the start. Even in the theater I was completely unsuitable for the amateur roles, and I didn't look good enough for a cinema lover. They always had to be pretty boys. And then I was only allowed to be the cheerful, funny element that always stumbles over some fir trees, cups and plates. I put an end to this talmi and only allowed myself one more nasty relapse. That was the nonsense film 'Sigi, der Straßenfeger' by Wolf Gremm in 1984. In the industry, bad films are known to be measured in Gremm. "

“After years of abstinence from the cinema, Harald Juhnke is now back on the screen for the first time. [...] Maybe he was waiting for a director like Wolf Gremm, who is one of our most assiduous filmmakers. Not always spoiled by success, the tireless Gremm with his new comedy and the great popularity of Harald Juhnke now has a great chance of achieving a box-office success. "

- Cinema No. 10/1984 (issue 77), p. 56

"The satirical intentions of the film are drowned out in flat jargon, what remains is a dusty-looking film of poor entertainment value."
