Herbert Fux (born March 25, 1927 in Hallein ; † March 13, 2007 in Zurich ) was an Austrian actor and politician .

Life

Herbert Fux came to Salzburg when he was five . After high school and grammar school he graduated from in 1944, the war Matura . His stepfather Franz Wettig was a member of the board of directors of the Salzburg State Theater from 1933 to 1937 . So Fux came into contact with the theater at an early age . He studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and then played in various theaters. He became known in the 1960s when he first starred in B-movies and crime novels, which is why he was often referred to as the " movie villain". But soon he was also working with well-known directors in European cinema. He often played bizarre, always sharply profiled supporting roles. From 1981 to 1984 he was also a member of the ensemble of the ARD music show Bananas . He has appeared in around 120 films and 300 television productions. He was married to his wife Edith (* 1956) for 30 years. In 2007, Fux committed suicide with the help of the Swiss end-of-life support organization Dignitas in Zurich due to a serious illness . His body was transferred to Austria and buried in the municipal cemetery of his birthplace Hallein.

Acting career

As an actor, Fux served completely different genres. He could be seen in the works of key representatives of European film, such as Michael Anderson ( The Quiller Memorandum - Danger from Darkness ) , Christian-Jaque (Secrets in Golden Nylons) , Wolfgang Staudte (The class ; The men with the white Vest ) , Volker Schlöndorff ( The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum ) , Ingmar Bergman ( The Snake Egg ) and Werner Herzog ( Woyzeck ) .

Also in spaghetti westerns Fux was busy, so in Al di là della legge (directed by Giorgio Stegani ), J. and S. - storia criminale del far west (directed by Sergio Corbucci ) and Prima ti suono e poi ti sparo (directed by Franz Antel ).

Other directors were Arthur Maria Rabenalt ( Man in the Shadow ) , Wolfgang Schleif ( Der Rote Rausch ) , Gottfried Reinhardt ( Jedermann ) , Werner Jacobs ( Mariandls Heimkehr ) , Alfred Weidenmann ( Julia, you are magical ; damned to sin) , Guy Hamilton ( Finale in Berlin ) , Lucio Fulci (Operazione San Pietro) , Rudolf Zehetgruber ( The Black Cobra ; Inspector X - Three Green Dogs ; I'll blow you all up - Inspector Blomfield's case no.1 ) , Alfred Vohrer (at the Edgar -Wallace filming the gorilla of Soho ) , Harald Reinl (when Jerry Cotton film version Dead Body on Broadway ) , Jürgen Roland (the angel of St. Pauli) , Rolf Thiele ( Rosemary's daughter ) , Wolfgang Liebeneiner (the Chinese miracle ; Götz von Berlichingen with the iron hand ) , Herbert Vesely ( Egon Schiele - Exzesse ) , Reinhard Schwabenitzky (Ilona and Kurti) , Claude Zidi (Astérix et Obélix contre César) .

Often Fux protagonist was in the films of Jess Franco ( The Castle of Fu Manchu , Eugenie ; Love Letters of a Portuguese Nun ) and he also met with Klaus Kinski together ( Jack the Ripper - The prostitute killer of London ) . As early as 1965, under the direction of Eddy Saller , he played a psychopathic female murderer in the Austrian splatter film Scourge of the Meat . His appearance on the side of Vincent Price in The House of 1000 Dolls was also known . His international reputation as a trash film actor was also shaped by witches to the blood (together with Udo Kier ).

In addition, Herbert Fux was seen repeatedly in Lederhosen films; he appeared under the direction of relevant greats such as Siggi Götz ( Three Swedes in Upper Bavaria ) , Alois Brummer ( On to the blue-checked four-poster bed ) and Franz Marischka ( Two Danes in Lederhosen ) .

In European erotic films of the 1960s and 1970s, Herbert Fux often worked as a supporting actor, e.g. B. directed by Hubert Frank , (Do you want to stay a virgin forever?) , Erwin C. Dietrich (black mink on soft skin ; hot mouth on moist lips) or Marischka (let it itch, buddy 5: The buddy won't let the itch ) .

Under the direction of his compatriot Franz Antel, Fux could be seen again and again (... and the robbers pop forever ; someone is always crazy ; oysters with mustard ) . He struck quieter tones in 1996 in the portrayal of the somewhat naive and clumsy gendarmerie inspector Michael Fuchs, who repeatedly got in the way of the detective Stockinger played by Karl Markovics ( ORF , Sat.1 ).

In 2008, the feature film Vineta was released in German cinemas, in which he can be seen alongside Ulrich Matthes .

One of his last works was the speaking role in the radio play Berge des Wahnsinns , the adaptation of a story by HP Lovecraft . Here he once again played an odd, quirky, sympathetic role. Fux was also a regular in German entertainment series; his most consistent role was that of the notorious hypochondriac Herr Konrad in the Bergdoktor .

In the episode Im Taxi, he played a stressed taxi driver in the Heinz Becker family .

Political career

In July 1977, together with Richard Hörl (* 1940 or 1937/1938, † April 22, 2019) and Eckehart Ziesel in Salzburg, he founded the citizens' list to save Salzburg's old town from the development of green spaces and property speculation, corruption and party proportional representation. In October 1977 Herbert Fux and his party colleague Richard Hörl became members of the Salzburg Citizens' List . Fux was a founding member of the United Greens Austria . In 1983, as one of the top candidates of the VGÖ, he was the victim of what turned out to be a fake interview article about his sex life in the magazine Basta published by Wolfgang Fellner . As a result, he was expelled from the party . In 1986, Fux was elected to the National Council as a candidate for the Green Alternative . He was a member of parliament until December 1988 and again from November 1989 to November 1990. He later became chairman of the city's cultural committee in Salzburg . Even after his retirement from all political positions, Herbert Fux was still involved, now primarily at his second residence in Vienna , in questions of monument protection and the preservation of the old town , for example in connection with the declaration of Vienna's inner city as a World Heritage Site in terms of UNESCO ; He was an active member of the Austrian Society for the Preservation of Monuments and Sites and carried out visits to the old town and historical monuments research in Vienna with the Monument Protection Network Austria . Among other things, he dealt with the controversial high-rise project Wien Mitte as well as the listed fire ruins of the Sofiensäle and protested against loft extensions that were out of scale . Fux advocated a policy close to the citizen right up to the end. He was also involved with a citizens' initiative against an underground car park on the Neuer Markt . His last political initiative can be seen as his suicide, carried out with the help of the Swiss euthanasia organization Dignitas after a serious illness, which Fux explained in detail in his memoirs and for which he asked for understanding.

Awards and honors

The “Green Club” elected Herbert Fux honorary chairman for life in 1990, an award which he returned in 2003, however. Herbert Fux rejected an honor planned by the city of Salzburg.
