Reception at the Kiel OB on the day of the premiere of Face Slaps

Rolf Thiele studied philosophy in Berlin and Prague and sociology in Göttingen. With Hans Abich , he founded Film Aufbau Göttingen in 1946 , a production company that completed the first film, Liebe 47 , in 1948 .

From 1951 he directed himself and often wrote the scripts for his films. In 1951 he directed his first film drama Primanerinnen , in which Ingrid Andree and Walter Giller had their first leading role in a movie.

He dedicated himself to humorous and satirical topics, into which he incorporated erotic aspects long before the so-called sex wave . His collaboration with actress Nadja Tiller , with whom he made eleven films with her in the lead role, including the box office hits Das Mädchen Rosemarie and Lulu, set the style .

Other highlights of his work are the Dürrenmatt film adaptation Greek seeks Greek (with Heinz Rühmann , Irina Demick , Hanne Wieder and Charles Regnier ), the satirical comedy Die Ente rings at half past seven (with Heinz Rühmann and Hertha Feiler ) and the sex satire Fresh, pious, happy, free (with Monika Berg and Horst Frank ) as well as Die Halbzarte with Romy Schneider and Magda Schneider .

With his last, politically critical work as a director, Rosemary's Daughter , he tried to build on the film success of Das Mädchen Rosemarie .

His grave is in the Munich East Cemetery .
