Liebe 47 is a German feature film from 1949 based on Wolfgang Borchert's play Draußen vor der Tür (1947). Directed by Wolfgang Liebeneiner .
action
The film is about a war returnees named Beckmann, who finds out that his wife has turned to another man during the years of his Siberian captivity and that his son is dead. Desperate, he sees only one way out for himself, because he “can't anymore” - but then on the banks of the Elbe he meets Anna Gehrke, a young widow who “doesn't want” anymore, and both tell each other their lives.
background
Borchert's original is counted among the so-called rubble literature, in which the authors tried to deal with the events and consequences of the Second World War. The authors of the rubble literature and the directors of the rubble films dealt in their works with the problems of those returning from war, the famine, the zero hour , the new beginning, poverty, suffering, guilt and atonement, war damage, everyday life in ruins and the trauma of the War. By taking up these issues, the aim was to enlighten the people or to educate the people about democracy.
The film was made in the Göttingen studio with external shots from Hamburg and the surrounding area as well as from Göttingen . Unlike Borchert's play, however, the movie was not a great success.
criticism
“A moving drama based on motifs from Borchert's Outside the Door , which was expanded to include a female figure for the film adaptation. The realistically designed film does not achieve the surreal, religious-mystical dimension of the original, but Liebeneiner made one of the most serious German 'post-war' films. "
