Imoru Egala

Alhaji Imoru Egala (* 1914 ; † April 2, 1981 in New York , USA ; also Imoro Egala ) was a leading politician in Ghana . Among other things, he held the position of foreign minister in the Ghanaian Republic between 1960 and 1961 and founded the later ruling party, People's National Party .

Career

Egala held various cabinet positions as a member of the Convention People's Party (CPP) under President Kwame Nkrumah 's administration . Between 1960 and 1961 he was Ghana's Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Information. After the military coup against Nkrumah, Egala was considered one of the most important political leaders among the supporters of the former president who remained in the country.

Egala is the founding father of the People's National Party (PHP), which won both the presidential elections with Hilla Limann and the parliamentary elections in 1979 . Egala financed the majority of Limann's election campaign. The PHP is considered to be the successor party to Nkrumah's political direction. Some sources report that Egala was unable to run himself because he was barred from holding political offices at the time.

Family and death

Imoru Egala was President Limann's uncle. His death in 1981 was the result of a heart attack. He was about to leave for Europe and Asia to organize financial aid for Ghana. Hajia Ramatu Aliu Mahama is the sixth child of Egala and the wife of the well-known Ghanaian politician Aliu Mahama .
