Alhaji Aliu Mahama (born March 3, 1946 in Yendi , Northern Region , † November 16, 2012 in Accra ) was a Ghanaian politician ( NPP ). Between 2001 and 2009, held under President Mahama John Kufuor the Office of the Vice President .

education

Mahama studied at the Government Secondary School in Tamale between 1960 and 67 and achieved the Advanced Level Certificate here. After graduation, he enrolled at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi . Between 1967 and 1971 he worked on his bachelor's degree in building technology .

Career

Alhaji Aliu Mahama began his career in the regional office in Bolgatanga of a state construction company (State Construction Corporation) as an engineer from 1972-75. He became assistant to the regional manager and was transferred to the company's Koforidua office (1975–1976). In June 1976 he became regional manager of the Northern Region in Tamale himself and held this post until August 1982.

In 1982 he founded his own engineering and construction company, LIDRA Limited, where he became managing director. In 1996 he became chairman of the Association of Constructors in the Northern Region until the parliamentary elections in 2000.

In 2001 Mahama was appointed Vice President for the 2001-2004 legislative period by President Kufuor. Following the 2004 elections, Mahama was re-elected Vice President for President Kufuor's current second and final term.

Mahama also held various local positions. Among them were, for example, the position as advisor in the Yendi District Council in 1978 and the election to council member of the Tamale Municipal Assembly in 1990.

Mahama was a founding member of the Tamale football club , Real Tamale United Football Club .

Family, relatives

Mahama was married to Hajia Ramatu Aliu Mahama (born October 15, 1951), a daughter of Imoru Egala , a former Foreign Minister of Ghana.
