CETME bayonet, FR 8 with scabbard

The CETME bayonet FR 8 is designed as a machete bayonet and was used with the Santa Barbara FR 8 short carbine. The bayonet includes a bayonet scabbard with a carrying loop.

The FR 8 bayonet is a modification of other machete bayonets manufactured by CETME .

history

The bayonet was manufactured and presented at the beginning of the 1950s, together with the short carbine FR 8 modified by the Fabrique De Armas La Coruña from the Mauser models in 1916 and 1943. The bayonet was also made in La Coruña.

Carrying method

The bayonet FR 8 is attached to the belt with the sheath and fixed to the thigh with the help of a leg strap.

technology

The FR 8 bayonet is 33.70 cm long and has a blade length of 22.00 cm. It consists of a blade with a continuous tang , an intermediate piece with a hole for fastening to the flash hider of the short carbine FR 8 and a fastening pawl to lock the bayonet on the bayonet mount of the rifle.

As a machete bayonet, the blade is only sharpened on one side. The highest degree of sharpness is in the groove of the sharp blade side. Due to this peculiarity of the blade, the cut and the weight of the bayonet, it is more of a cutting weapon than a stabbing weapon. The tip of the blade is rounded and therefore has more impact than stabbing effect.

Unlike many other bayonets from this period, the handle has an ergonomic handle design (finger grooves).

The bayonet sheath is made of plastic and has a metal spring clip inside to fix the bayonet in the sheath. A wide fabric tape forms the carrying loop of the scabbard, to which a fabric strap with a push button for attaching the bayonet grip is attached. At the bottom of the sheath there is a hole for attaching the leg strap.
