Hackman Owusu-Agyeman

Hackman Owusu-Agyeman (born November 22, 1941 in Effidiase, Koforidua , Ghana ) is a leading politician in Ghana. He was Minister for Water Resources, Labor and Housing until July 2007, but resigned to run as a candidate for the New Patriotic Party in the 2008 presidential election . He was previously the Ghanaian Foreign Minister and Minister of the Interior, also under President John Agyekum Kufuor .

childhood and education

Hackman Owusu-Agyeman was born in Effidiase, a district of Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Between 1961 and 1965 he attended St. Augustine College. He continued his studies between 1965 and 1968 at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology ( Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology ). Here he earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.

In 1969 he was awarded a Masters in Agriculture Economics after further studying agriculture at Wye College, then part of the University of London . He continued studying agriculture in the Netherlands, where he received the Agricultural Planning Certificate from the Institute for Social Studies in The Hague in the Netherlands in 1997.

Career

Owusu-Agyeman held a position in the Ministry of Agriculture during the reign of Kwame Nkrumah in 1965. After the military coup of 1966, he was appointed Senior Agricultural Economist in the Ministry of Agriculture in Ghana under the military junta of the National Liberation Council in 1968.

Owusu-Agyenang has been working for various organizations since the 1970s. In 1974 he worked in field research for the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). In 1977 he was appointed by the organization to the economic analysis department and in 1979 he became the liaison officer. In Accra , he was the regional representative for the Food and Agriculture Organization. Between 1979 and 1984 he headed the organization on a mission in Zambia.

Between 1984 and 1989 he was the FAO representative in Trinidad and Tobago, the Caribbean, and Guyana. During this time he was Head of the Headquarters of the FAO Regional Office in Rome, Italy.

Hackman Owusu-Agyeman joined the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ghana in 1992 . There he became the party's treasurer. In 1996, 2000 and 2004 he won a seat in parliament in the New Juaben North constituency in the national elections . Owusu-Agyeman became foreign minister under President John Agyekum Kufuor and in 2003 minister of the interior when the NPP won the elections . His last ministerial post was in the Ministry of Water Resources, Public Works and Housing, but voluntarily resigned with other ministers in July 2007 in order to stand as a presidential candidate for the 2008 presidential election.
