Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo (born March 29, 1944 in Swalaba , Accra ) is a Ghanaian politician and President of the Republic of Ghana since January 7, 2017 . Until July 31, 2007, he was Foreign Minister and Minister for Regional Integration and Minister for The New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) (Regional Integration & NEPAD) . Because of his desire to run for the presidential election of 2008, he voluntarily resigned from the ministerial post on July 31, 2007. He was next to John Atta Mills as the most promising candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the presidential election in 2008 , when the second and constitutionally last term of office of President John Agyekum Kufuor ended, but could not prevail against Atta Mills. In 2016 he won the presidential election against incumbent John Dramani Mahama ( NDC ).

Akufo-Addo was educated at Lancing College in Sussex , England and later went to the University of Ghana at Legon, Accra, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Economics in 1967 (B. Sc. Econs 1967).
Career
In July 1971 Akufo-Addo was admitted to the English bar in Inner Temple in London, followed by admission to the Ghanaian Bar in 1975.

Akufo-Addo is married and has five daughters.
He is third married to Rebecca Akufo-Addo, daughter of the speaker in the Ghanaian parliament Jacob Hackenburg Griffiths-Randolph , with whom he has a daughter. He was previously married to Remi Akufo-Addo, a daughter of the Nigerian lawyer, politician and traditional ruler Remi Fani-Kayode . This first marriage was divorced, both spouses have two daughters together. In his second marriage, Akufo-Addo was married to Obaa Eleanor from the royal house of the Dekyere (Botase) in Asante Mampong . Akufo-Addo's second wife died in 1993 at the age of 39. They had two daughters together.
Akufo-Addo is the eldest of four children of Adeline and Edward Akufo-Addo , the former Chief Justice and President of the Second Republic of Ghana. Edward Akufo-Addo was married to Nana Yeboakua Ofori-Atta, a sister or half-sister of William Ofori-Atta , a famous Ghanaian independence advocate and Minister of Ghana. She comes from the royal family (Omanhene) of Akyem Abuakwa .
