The National Democratic Congress ( NDC ) is a political party in Ghana . It was the ruling party from 2008 to 2016 and has been the main opposition party ever since. It is considered social democratic.

The symbol of the party is an umbrella in black, red, white and green.

history

The National Democratic Congress was founded by the former President of Ghana Jerry Rawlings for the elections in 1992 and 1996. Alongside the National Democratic Congress, the New Patriotic Party is one of the two leading parties. In the last election on December 7, 2016, the National Democratic Congress won 104 of the 275 seats in parliament in the parliamentary elections and thus lost an absolute majority to the New Patriotic Party.
