Franz Weihmayr

Franz Weihmayr (born December 31, 1903 in Munich ; † May 26, 1969 there ; born Franz Xaver Weihmayr ) was a German cameraman .

He received his photographic training in his father's portrait photo studio until 1921 . He then became a camera assistant at Union-Film in Munich. In addition, he attended the State Institute for Photography .

After a relatively short period as a simple cameraman in 1922 and 1923, he made his debut as chief cameraman at the age of almost twenty. This was followed by several years in Munich, until he went to Berlin , where he received his first important commission with Leontine Sagan's girl in uniform at Reimar Kuntze's side .

In 1932 he made a film in Poland, and two years later he worked in Palestine under Aleksander Ford on his Halutzim . After the seizure of power by the Nazis, he took the camera for the 1933 Horst Wessel -Heroisierung Hans Westmar and was soon to Leni Riefenstahl's Nazi Party movies Victory of Faith and Triumph of the Will involved. Weihmayr became one of the leading German cameramen. The works with UFA star Zarah Leander were reserved for him.

Even after the war, Weihmayr was one of the most sought-after cameramen. Among other things, he was responsible for the two Kästner adaptations Das doppelte Lottchen and Pünktchen and Anton as well as the literary film adaptation Liebe 47 nach Draußen vor der Tür and the restorative biography Canaris . He was married to the actress Ada Chekhova (1916–1966).
