The State Academy for Photo Design Munich was an independent training facility for photography and photo design in Munich with several predecessor institutions, which was incorporated into the Munich University of Applied Sciences in 2002.

history

The training facility was founded on October 15, 1900 under the name "Teaching and Research Institute for Photography" as one of the "Kgl. Bavarian State Government Subsidized Educational Institution ”opened in Rennbahnstrasse, near Munich's Theresienwiese. GH Emmerich is the founder and founding director . 1904 Expansion by a graphics department. Renaming to "Teaching and Research Institute for Photography, Chemography, Collotype and Engraving". 1905 admission of women to photography training. 1907–1913 employment of Frank Eugene as a teacher for "Artistic Photography". In 1928 it was nationalized and from there was named "Bavarian State Institute for Photography" and from 1954 "Bavarian State Institute for Photography". In 1990 the designation was again adapted to the temporal development with "State Academy for Photo Design". In 2002, the specialist academy was incorporated as a "Photo Design " course into Faculty 12 " Design " at the Munich University of Applied Sciences (FHM). In 2004, the last 30 graduates left the rooms at Clemensstrasse 33. "Photo design" is now a course of study at the Faculty of Design at the Munich University of Applied Sciences , which has been based in the former aristocratic armory at Lothstrasse 17 since 2019 .
