Jörg Koopmann (born March 10, 1968 in Munich ) is a German photographer , curator and publisher . He lives in Munich.

biography

Jörg Koopmann attended the Asam-Gymnasium in Munich . From 1990 to 1993 he studied at the Munich State Academy for Photo Design . He wrote his diploma thesis on “ Photojournalism ” with Dieter Hinrichs . From 1994 to 1996 he was a photographer at the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus , until 1997 when he worked as a freelancer, mainly in the reportage / portrait area . In 1997, together with Marek Vogel , he founded the “glossy” photo forum in Munich, which he runs with Martin Fengel . In 2009 he founded Book with a Beard . From 2014 to 2020 Koopmann was curator of the Munich exhibition hall for international contemporary art Lothringer13 .

Work

His main areas of expertise include photo journalism and travel photography . In addition to numerous publishing and art photographs , Koopmann's photographs are known from magazines such as ZEIT-Magazin , SZ-Magazin , Jetzt-Magazin, Das Magazin , Wallpaper, Spex and others. He was also involved in various national and international exhibitions. He does not underpin his work, but lets “his pictures” take effect. He makes no difference whether they are created on his own initiative or as commissioned work. Together with Martin Fengel, Koopmann worked on the "149 Days" project from April 9 to September 4, 2007.

Awards

In 1999 he took part in the competition work of the Körber Foundation for the Körber Photo Award. In 2001 he received the promotional award for photography from the City of Munich .
