The Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin ( SZ-Magazin for short ) is the four-color supplement, a so-called supplement , in the Friday edition of the Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) and thus one of the largest magazines in Germany alongside the Zeit -Magazin .

history

The Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin was founded in 1990 under the editor-in-chief of Andreas Lebert . Christian Kämmerling (* 1954) and Ulf Poschardt (* 1967) headed it since summer 1996 . In 1999 it came to light that Tom Kummer , a freelance correspondent in Los Angeles , had fabricated interviews with movie stars like Sharon Stone , Kim Basinger , Brad Pitt and Courtney Love . When it turned out that Poschardt and Kämmerling had published fake interviews, they could no longer hold the SZ. From 2000 Dominik Wichmann and Jan Weiler were jointly responsible for the editorial team. Dominik Wichmann has been the sole editor-in-chief since 2004. On June 1, 2011, Wichmann moved to Stern as deputy editor-in-chief . After the SZ-Magazin was temporarily managed by Jan Heidtmann during a transitional period, Timm Klotzek took over the editor-in-chief on July 1, 2011 . Michael Ebert has also been editor-in-chief at Timm Klotzek's side since 2013 .

In 2018 the SZ-Magazin announced that it had removed manipulated articles by Claas Relotius from the website.

Staff and authors

The best-known authors and columnists include Axel Hacke , the moral columnist Rainer Erlinger and the journalist and book author Meike Winnemuth . Former columnists included Hajo Schumacher , Kurt Kister , Willi Winkler , Christian Ulmen , Georg Diez , Rebecca Casati and Donna Leon .

Special editions

Edition 46

Edition 46 of the Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin has existed for 18 years and is an art edition of the magazine. Once a year, the design of a complete edition is assigned to a contemporary artist. It began Anselm Kiefer in 1990, followed by Jeff Koons , Jenny Holzer , Sigmar Polke and Matthew Barney . Since this is the edition of calendar week 46, this issue has been titled Edition 46 since 1990 . A public exhibition and extensive reporting in the publisher's own printed and electronic media complement this publication. The guest artists are international protagonists of the contemporary art scene. The last edition in 2012 is something special. In contrast to the previous edition, the edition is not dedicated to one artist, but instead presents films by 17 international artists of video art . Parallel to the print edition, the films could be viewed in moving images and sounds via the SZ-Magazin app and the Internet.

Style life

The upscale edition "Stil Leben" is the first line extension of the Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin and is included twice a year in the total circulation of the Süddeutsche Zeitung. Stil Leben is an independent offshoot of the SZ magazine with monothematic content. Since April 2013, there has been an issue each spring with the focus on "Watches and Jewelry" and one in the fall with a focus on "Luxury". Printed on higher quality paper in a slightly larger format, Stil Leben visually stands out from the weekly SZ magazine.
