Georg Schreiber (journalist)
Georg Schreiber (born October 9, 1921 in Münster , Westphalia ; † November 8, 1996 ) was a German physician and medical journalist .
Live and act
Georg Schreiber studied medicine in Münster , Breslau and Munich . In 1945 he was promoted to Dr. med. doctorate and received his license to practice medicine.
From 1947 he worked as a journalist and publicist . Among other things, he was deputy press officer at the Bavarian State Chancellery , editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper “Mittelbadischer Kurier”, first editor-in-chief of the medical magazine “euromed”, head of the medicine and science editorial team at Stern and a columnist at Die Zeit . Schreiber was co-founder and editor-in-chief of the medical service newspaper "pons", which he ran for 33 years.
In 1966 he was appointed to the Federal Health Council as the first journalist . He was a senator of the Academy for Medical Training in Cologne, a member of the advisory board of the State Medical Association of Rhineland-Palatinate , a member of the board of trustees of the German Cancer Aid and the German Foundation for Cancer Research (Dr. Mildred Scheel Foundation).
Georg Schreiber was one of the founders of the "College of Medical Journalists", which he headed from 1965 to 1975, and was a member of the "Munich Press Club".
In 1976 he started the talk show “Talk als Therapy” in the oncological clinic Bad Trissl in Oberaudorf , for which he organized and moderated almost 300 discussions until shortly before his death. The aim was to stabilize the affected patients.

Dr. Georg Schreiber Media Prize
Since 2003, the AOK Bayern has been awarding the Dr. Georg Schreiber Media Prize annually for outstanding work by young journalists in the health and social fields. The prize is endowed with 5,000, 3,500 and 2,000 euros (three prizes for publications in print media ) and 5,000 euros (two prizes for publications in radio and television ). A special prize is endowed with 5,000 euros. The winners include:
