Bavarian State Medal for Social Merit

The Bavarian State Medal for Social Merit has been awarded since 1970. It is awarded to people who have rendered outstanding services to the Free State of Bavaria and its citizens in social areas . The award was donated by the then Bavarian State Minister for Labor and Social Welfare Fritz Pirkl . Since then, it has been awarded to around 20 people every year.

On the front there is the lettering Bavarian State Medal for Social Merit , on the back the Bavarian state coat of arms with the lettering Bavarian State Ministry for Family, Labor and Social Affairs .

From 1970 to 2018 inclusive, the award, also known as the social medal, has so far honored a total of 1039 personalities. Suggestions for an award with the Bavarian State Medal for Social Merit can be submitted informally by any citizen to the Bavarian State Ministry for Labor and Social Affairs, Family and Women , to the governments, district offices or municipalities.

The State Medal for Social Merit is not a medal or decoration within the meaning of Art. 118 Paragraph 5 of the Constitution of the Free State of Bavaria and is not intended to be worn in public.
