Fritz Pirkl
Fritz Pirkl (born August 13, 1925 in Sulzbach , today part of Sulzbach-Rosenberg ; † August 19, 1993 in Marquartstein ) was a German psychologist and politician ( CSU ).
Life and work
Pirkl was born the son of a railroad worker. After attending school, he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and took part in the Second World War as a soldier from 1943 to 1945 . Shortly before the end of the war, he was wounded.
In 1945 Pirkl took part in the establishment of the Federation of German Catholic Youth (BDKJ) in Nuremberg . In 1946 he took a degree in psychology, economics and history at the universities of Würzburg and Erlangen on which he in 1950 with the diploma examination of Psychology and in 1952 with the graduation to the Dr. phil. finished. He then worked briefly as an educational and economic advisor. From 1954 to 1964 he worked for various offices of the labor administration, first in Erlangen and then at the headquarters of the Federal Employment Agency in Nuremberg. Here he was last promoted to the board of directors.
In 1968 Fritz Pirkl was appointed Knight of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Eugène Cardinal Tisserant and on July 8, 1968 in Munich by Lorenz Cardinal Jaeger , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy, and Hermann Josef Abs , Lieutenant in Germany, in the Order invested.
Political party
Pirkl joined the CSU in 1949 . In the same year he joined the Junge Union (JU), was deputy chairman from 1952 to 1957 and chairman of the JU Bayern from 1957 to 1961 . From 1960 to 1963 he acted as deputy federal chairman of the JU Germany. From 1955 to 1991 he was a member of the CSU state executive and from 1963 to 1991 a member of the CSU presidium. In addition, from 1969 to 1989 he was state chairman of the Christian Social Workers' Union (CSA). In 1966 he participated in the establishment of the Hanns Seidel Foundation , which was closely related to the Christian Socials and which he headed from 1967 until his death.
MP
Pirkl was a council member of the city of Nuremberg from 1952 to 1959 . He was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament from 1958 until his resignation on November 1, 1984. From 1958 to 1962 he was deputy chairman of the committee for affairs of displaced persons and victims of the war and from 1962 to 1966 deputy chairman of the committee for social affairs. From 1984 to 1993 he was a member of the European Parliament . In 1984 and 1989 he was his party's top candidate for the respective European elections.
Public offices
On June 24, 1964, Pirkl was appointed State Secretary for Labor and Social Welfare in the government of the Free State of Bavaria led by Prime Minister Alfons Goppel and was appointed Minister of State for Labor and Social Welfare on December 5, 1966 . Since January 1, 1972, he has held the official title of Minister of State for Labor and Social Affairs and since 1978 has been a member of the subsequent government headed by Prime Minister Franz Josef Strauss . On July 17, 1984 he resigned from the state government and was replaced in his ministerial office by Franz Neubauer .
Opus Dei
Fritz Pirkl was closely since his days as JU functionary with the Catholic -kirchlichen association Opus Dei connected and remained until his death president of the Munich Rhine-Danube Foundation eV , a factory institution that financial transfers of the organization with Spain and Latin America unwinds and serves to raise funds internationally for Opus Dei purposes. In this role, Pirkl formed an important hinge between church and politics for Opus Dei. His successor as president was Norbert Geis .
