Christina Berndt

Christina Berndt (* 1969 in Emden ) is a German science journalist and author .

Career

Berndt studied biochemistry in Hanover and at the University of Witten / Herdecke . She then worked as a research assistant at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg, where she was preparing for her doctorate. For her work on CD4- and CXCR4-mediated apoptosis as a possible mechanism of T-cell depletion in AIDS in Peter H. Krammer's laboratory , she was awarded the doctoral prize of the German Society for Immunology .

During her doctorate, she wrote about medical topics and research for the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung . In the following years she worked as an intern at the German Press Agency , Süddeutscher Rundfunk , Spiegel , Bild der Wissenschaft and Süddeutsche Zeitung . Since March 2000 she has been an editor in the “Knowledge” section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung . Her main topics are medicine and life sciences.

Her book about resilience was published in 2013. It was on the Spiegel bestseller list for more than two years, seven weeks of which was number 1. By 2014, a total of 11 additional editions followed, and in 2015 a new edition was published. So far (2019) it has been translated into twelve languages. In 2016 her book Satisfaction was published , which also became a bestseller.

Berndt is married and has two daughters. The family lives in Munich.

  • 2018: Dr. Georg Schreiber Media Prize in the "Extraordinary Appreciation" category (together with the "Implant Files" team from the Süddeutsche Zeitung)
  • 2019: Journalism Prize from the Health Foundation for research on the "Implant Files" (3rd place together with the "Implant Files" team from the Süddeutsche Zeitung)
  • 2019: Nomination for the Ernst Schneider Prize in the "Internet" category with research on the "Implant Files"
  • 2019: Recognition for exceptional investigative journalism from the German Society for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery eV (DGOU) and the Professional Association for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery (BVOU) for researching the "Implant Files"
