The German Society for Immunology eV (DGfI) is a scientific society with the aim of promoting scientific and medical research as well as training and further education in the field of immunology . Particular concerns of society:
- Promotion of immunology in basic and clinical research.
- State-of-the-art immunological education and training for (young) researchers and physicians.
- Organization of congresses, colloquia, lectures with an immunological focus.
- Promotion of networks, u. a. in interdisciplinary working groups.
- Raising public awareness of the subject of immunology.
The DGfI was founded in 1967 in Marburg , where it also has its legal seat .
Memberships
The DGfI is a member of the Working Group of Scientific Medical Societies (AWMF) and the Association of Biology, Biosciences and Biomedicine in Germany eV At the international level, it is a member of the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS), Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies (FOCIS) and the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS).
Working groups
Each of the DGfI working groups focuses on a different area of immunology and represents a defined research and teaching focus in the DGfI that is clearly demarcated from other working groups. The working groups represent this work focus on a national and international level through active participation in DGfI events and through the organization of annual workshops and symposia with a focus on the focus of the respective working group. In addition, the working groups follow an interdisciplinary approach through contacts with other national and international specialist societies.

The equality and advancement of women in immunological research is very important. A working group for women in immunology was founded in 2004.

Initial and continuing education
The Academy for Immunology of the German Society for Immunology offers immunological training based on the latest scientific standards. The three modules Autumn School, Spring School and Translational Immunology School are aimed at beginners, advanced and translational researchers and are attended by approx. 180 interested parties each year . The company awards the title of specialist immunologist DGfI after completing a prescribed training period .
Prices
The German Society for Immunology awards several doctoral and early career prizes. From 1973 to 2014, the Avery Landsteiner Prize was awarded every two years with the support of Behringwerke AG, Marburg and CSL Behring GmbH . The German Immunology Prize, which is the highest scientific award of the German Society for Immunology, has been awarded since 2016. The German Immunology Prize is made possible by the generous support of Celgene GmbH.
Immunology for everyone
The "Immunology for Everyone" project was launched in February 2012 and aims to raise public awareness of the subject of immunology through comprehensible information and enable a look behind the scenes of immunological research in Germany.
