Hans-Hartmut Peter

Hans-Hartmut Peter (* 1942 in Darmstadt ) is a retired German professor of immunology and rheumatology at the Faculty of Medicine at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and Medical Director of the Department of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology at the University Medical Center Freiburg .

Life

Hans-Hartmut Peter graduated from the Georg-Büchner School in Darmstadt in 1962 and then studied medicine in Marburg, Paris and Heidelberg from 1962 to 1967. In 1967 he received his doctorate at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg. A first postdoctoral fellowship followed in 1968 with the support of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes at the Institut de Recherches Scientifiques sur le Cancer in Villejuif with P. Grabar. From 1969 to 1970 he worked as a medical assistant at Heidelberg University Hospital , followed by a second postdoctoral fellowship as part of a DFG research grant at the Scripps Research Institute , La Jolla (California) at the Department of Immunology with JD Feldman. In 1973 Peter became an assistant doctor at the Hannover Medical School in the Department of Clinical Immunology (H. Deicher) and in 1974 went on sabbatical to the Hôpital St. Louis Paris (Department of Immunology, with F. Kourilsky) for six months . His habilitation in 1976 at the Hannover Medical School dealt with forms of lymphocytic toxicity. From 1978 to 1983 he worked as a senior physician in the internal medicine department of the Hannover Medical School. In 1984 he was offered a position at the University Medical Center Freiburg , where he became Medical Director of the Department of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology. Since 2002 Peter has been the spokesperson for the Collaborative Research Center 620 on the subject of immunodeficiency and has been the medical director and spokesperson of the integrated research and treatment center for chronic immunodeficiency (CCI) at the Freiburg University Medical Center since 2008.

In his scientific work, Hans-Hartmut Peter mainly deals with the clinical and genetics of antibody deficiency syndromes. Vasculitis , immunosuppressive and immunomodulating therapies are another focus. His clinical focus is primarily on autoimmunity and immunodeficiency . The focus is on rheumatic diseases , collagenoses , vasculitides, granulomatoses and monoclonal gammopathies . Primary and secondary immunodeficiencies are another important clinical and scientific focus. Research in the Collaborative Research Center 620 (SFB 620), in the establishment of which Peter was significantly involved in 2002, comprises a broad spectrum of scientific projects in the field of immunodeficiency, with a direct connection to patient treatment. The Center for Chronic Immunodeficiency (CCI) is continuing the translational orientation of the SFB 620 and integrating research and treatment in the field of immunodeficiency as a model for the first time in Germany.

Peter published about 350 publications in international journals in immunology, rheumatology and internal medicine.

Peter was or is a member of various editorial boards of scientific journals such as Immunobiology , Allergology , Clin Exp Immunol and Current Opinion in Rheumatology .
