history

AOK Bayern was created on June 1, 1995 from the merger of 39 then independent Bavarian AOKs and the then AOK regional association of Bavaria and is still the largest health insurance company in Bavaria and the fourth largest health insurance company in Germany. The basis for this was the ordinance on the association of the Bavarian general local health insurance funds to form a general local health insurance fund for Bavaria including the long-term care insurance funds of May 23, 1995 (notice of May 30, 1995 - III 2/4205/1293).

Finances

Contribution rates

Since January 1, 2009 the contribution rates have been standardized by the legislator. The general contribution rate (for members and pensioners entitled to sickness benefits) for health insurance is currently 14.6 percent. Members who are not entitled to sick pay generally pay the reduced contribution rate of 14.0 percent. Both contribution rates are the same for all statutory health insurances.

Until December 31, 2014, AOK Bayern did not levy any additional contribution that was independent of the health insurance fund . From January 1, 2015, it will charge an income-related additional contribution of 0.9 percent of the contributory income. The additional contribution has been 1.1 percent since January 1, 2016.

Organization and management

Self-administration of the AOK Bavaria

Since the establishment of the social security system , a joint self-administration of insured persons and their employers has shaped the policy of the social insurance funds. At the health insurance companies, this is done through jointly formed administrative boards . In social elections , insured persons and employers decide on their representatives on the administrative boards every six years, most recently on May 31, 2017. The AOKs are subject to the legal supervision of the federal states, the AOK-Bundesverband to that of the Federal Ministry of Health .

Self-management

Board of Directors

It determines the social and corporate policy orientation of the AOK and represents the interests of all contributors to the board of directors. He sets the budget , determines the statutes, elects and controls the board . The members of the Board of Directors at AOK carry out their work on a voluntary basis .

  • Matthias Jena - Chairman of the Board of Directors, Group of Insured ( DGB / ACA)
  • Ivor Parvanov - Employers' Group

Advisory Board

In addition to the board of directors, there is an advisory board in every AOK directorate. This represents the interests of the insured on site and also consists of representatives of the insured and representatives of the employers. Representatives of the advisory boards are also active in the objection committee, which can check decisions in the context of the objection procedure for their accuracy.

Board

The board of directors takes all decisions independently in order to implement the principles and goals set by the board of directors. Unlike the administrative board, the board of directors of the AOK carries out the business full-time and represents the AOK externally. He is elected by the Board of Directors for a term of six years.

  • Irmgard Stippler (chairman of the board)
  • Stephan Abele (Deputy Chairman of the Board of Management)
