history
The AOK Northwest emerged from the merger between the AOK Schleswig-Holstein and the AOK Westfalen-Lippe on October 1 of 2010.
History of the AOK Westfalen-Lippe
AOK Westfalen-Lippe was founded on April 1st, 1994 and was based in Dortmund. It emerged from the following 27 general local health insurance funds:

Finances
Contribution rate
Since January 1, 2009 the contribution rates have been standardized by the legislator. Up until December 31, 2014, the AOK did not levy any additional contribution that is independent of the health insurance fund and did not pay any premium to its insured persons. From January 1, 2015, it levied an income-related additional contribution of 0.9 percent of the contributory income. In 2016 and 2017 the additional contribution was 1.1 percent, since 2018 0.9 percent.
Budget volume
The total budget of the AOK Northwest is in the business year 2019 around € 10.2 billion.
