The Central Stadium of the Unions ( Russian Центральный стадион профсоюзов / Zentralny stadion profsojusow ) is a football stadium in the Russian city of Voronezh . It currently offers space for 32,750 spectators and serves as the home of the Fakel Voronezh association .
history
The central stadium of the trade unions in Voronezh, a city in southwest Russia near the border with Ukraine , from the 1930s was rebuilt in 2003. At that time, the FK Fakel Voronezh club was at the height of its sporting career and played for several years in the Premjer League , the highest Russian division. For this reason, the club management of Fakel felt compelled to build a new, larger stadium for the up-and-coming club, as the old stadium of Fakel was a lot smaller than the new one. A capacity of 31,743 spectators has been set for the new stadium. However, in the year the central stadium was completed, Fakel Voronezh was relegated from the Premjer league and has not been able to rise again to this day. In 2008 the club was dissolved and replaced by the successor club FSA Voronezh , which also plays in this stadium. In addition, the old Fakel Voronezh club was re-established and is now back in the 1st soccer division , the second highest Russian league.
