The AOK Bremen / Bremerhaven - The health fund is a German health and care fund based in Bremen- Mitte. In terms of the number of people insured, it is one of the largest statutory health insurance providers in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen .

history

The local health insurance funds were founded in 1883 immediately after the introduction of statutory health insurance by Imperial Chancellor Otto von Bismarck . It is by far the smallest of the 11 general local health insurance funds in terms of the number of insured persons.

Contribution rates

Since January 1, 2009 the contribution rates have been standardized by the legislator. Since 2019, the health fund has been charging an additional contribution of 0.7 percent of income.

AOK administration building

The 5- and 7-storey AOK administration building at Bürgermeister-Smidt-Straße / corner Am Wall was built in 1958 according to plans by Martin Zill with the assistance of Eberhard Kaiser. The two wings of the reinforced concrete frame structure penetrate each other. The low wing on Bürgermeister-Smidt-Straße has arcades and the ticket hall is two-story.

Organization and management

Self-administration of the AOK Bremen / Bremerhaven

Since the establishment of the social security system , a joint self-administration of insured persons and their employers has shaped the policy of the social insurance funds. At the health insurance companies, this is done through jointly formed administrative boards . In social elections , insured persons and employers decide on their representatives on the supervisory boards every six years. The AOKn are subject to the legal supervision of the federal states, the AOK-Bundesverband that of the Federal Ministry of Health .

Board of Directors

The board of directors is the highest decision-making body of the AOK. He has control and information rights and determines the social and corporate policy course of the company. Its members represent the insured and employers. The board of directors elects the board of directors. The honorary chairmen of the board of directors change every year.
