As AOK - The health insurance company in Hesse (AOK Hessen), the designated general local health insurance for the state of Hesse . It is a health and nursing care fund .

history

The AOK was founded on October 1, 1993 after the merger of 20 independent Hessian AOKs with the then regional association. The basis for this was the ordinance for the unification of the Hessian general local health insurance funds to form a state-wide general local health insurance fund in Hesse and determination of the region from 9 September 1993. The former AOKn were:

AOK Hessen is the health insurance company with the largest number of members in Hessen. In 2009 AGIDA - Die Direkte of AOK Hessen was created as a second brand. AOK Hessen intended to merge with AOK Plus on January 1, 2011 . However, the AOK Plus board of directors ended the merger negotiations in November 2010.

The headquarters of the AOK Hessen is based in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe . More than 1,600,000 insured persons (including around 1,200,000 members) and around 100,000 corporate customers are looked after in 54 advice centers and call centers. Their market share is therefore around 31 percent. The corporation's total assets in 2018 were over EUR 2.4 billion.

Our own training center in Homberg / Ohm ensures extensive training and further education for staff. In cooperation with the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen, a dual course of study (specializing in health insurance management) is offered under the name "AOK StudiumPlus", with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree.

Contribution rates

Since January 1, 2009 the contribution rates have been standardized by the legislator. In 2015, the AOK levied an additional contribution of 0.9 percent of income. From 2016 the additional contribution was 1.1 percent, in 2018 it increased to 15.6%. The contribution rate has been 15.5% since 2019.
