The building of the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs in Wiesbaden

The Hessian Ministry for Social Affairs and Integration was founded in 1945 as the “Hessian Ministry for Labor” and over the years it has been redesigned and renamed several times. In 1991 the independent "Hessian Ministry for Youth, Family and Health" was split off, but it lost its independence again in 1995 when it was incorporated into the Ministry for Environment, Energy, Youth, Family and Health . The designation "Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs" was first used in 1969 and appeared again and again in the following years. In February 2009, at the request of the then incumbent Minister Jürgen Banzer, the name “Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs” was replaced by “Hessian Ministry of Labor, Family and Health”. The reason given by a ministry spokeswoman said, “The Ministry of Social Affairs sounds abstract, theoretical and meta-level. The minister has now used the terms that he considers future issues. ”After Jürgen Banzer's replacement at the end of August 2010, the ministry reverted to the old term“ social ministry ”. On January 18, 2014, with the appointment of the Bouffier II cabinet , the authority was named Hessian Ministry for Social Affairs and Integration .

In 2010 Stefan Grüttner ( CDU ) became Banzer's successor. Kai Klose ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) has been the incumbent Minister of State since January 2019 . The State Secretary reporting to him is Anne Janz (Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen).

The ministry has around 450 employees. The Hessian State Examination and Investigation Office in the Health System is subordinate to it. The supervision of the state office lies with the regional council of Giessen .
