The State Veterinary Chamber (LTK) Hessen is a professional corporation under public law and one of 17 State Veterinary Chambers (LTK) in Germany, which regulate and monitor the interests of veterinarians in the independent (established) profession and their training issues . All veterinarians who practice their profession in Hessen are compulsory members of the LTK Hessen. This does not apply to the veterinarians working in the supervisory authority. The responsible supervisory authority in Hesse is the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs. The State Veterinary Association of Hesse is based in Niedernhausen im Taunus .

1876 to 1933

In Hesse, a state-owned "Veterinary Provincial Association" had been founded as early as 1876, but it was not until 1926 that a veterinary chamber was finally established. According to the law of 1925, she had to “represent the interests of the veterinary profession and participate in the tasks of the public veterinary service , ... to create welfare institutions for veterinarians and their survivors, as well as to comment on all important questions affecting their interests, as well as applications and presentations to the Ministry of the Interior (the supervisory authority). ”Her tasks also included professional training , the formulation of a professional code and the court of honor .

1933 to 1945

After 1933 all state veterinary associations and other veterinary professional associations were compulsorily amalgamated in the "Reich Association of German Veterinarians", to which the Reich Chamber of Veterinarians was then also superordinated from 1936.

1945 until today

After the end of the Second World War, the "Association of State Veterinarians Hesse eV" was formed in Hesse in 1946 with Karl Ohly as president, who then also became president of the "German Veterinary Association" founded in May 1947 as a working group of the West German veterinary associations.

After the law on professional representation, professional practice, further training and professional jurisdiction for doctors, dentists, veterinarians and pharmacists (Heilberufsgesetz) came into force on November 10, 1954, the State Veterinary Chamber of Hesse was constituted on its basis on December 28, 1955 . The association Landestierärztekammer Hessen eV was accordingly dissolved on January 13, 1956.

Since then, LTK Hessen has endeavored within the framework prescribed by law to further develop the quality of the veterinary profession and those practicing it, has rendered outstanding services in the preparation of legal regulations and administrative regulations relating to animal health, consumer protection and animal welfare, and has successfully worked for the interests of those working in the veterinary sector and their survivors.
