Conference of Labor and Social Affairs Ministers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Conference of Labor and Social Affairs Ministers ( ASMK for short ) is the permanent specialist conference of the ministers and senators of the German federal states responsible for labor and social policy . It is not a constitutional body like the Bundesrat , but a voluntary amalgamation of the states within the framework of so-called cooperative federalism . It serves the coordination between the federal states and the cooperation with the federal government , which usually takes part as a guest through the Federal Minister of Labor .

The ASMK advises and decides on important and fundamental matters of labor and social policy. It deals, for example, with the following topics: labor market , labor law , occupational safety , social law , social insurance , rehabilitation and integration of people with disabilities , with the integration of migrants and with questions of European labor market and social policy.

The chairmanship of the ASMK changes annually in a fixed cycle and in 2019 lies with the Minister of Social Affairs of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , Stefanie Drese . The office is located at the competent ministry of the respective presiding country. It coordinates communication between the federal states and the federal government as well as with the other specialist ministerial conferences and serves as a contact for associations, clubs, authorities and citizens.
