Integration of people with disabilities in the world of work

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Integration of people with disabilities in the world of work ( IMBA ) is a documentation and profile comparison process for comparing the requirements of a job with the skills of a person who has changed performance, is disabled or is at risk of disability. The method was developed by an interdisciplinary team of doctors , psychologists and ergonomists . IMBA is used in numerous settings in which it is a question of skill-based work. In addition to medical and occupational rehabilitation, this also includes in particular company health management (BGM) and company integration management (BEM).

The IMBA procedure

With IMBA, job-related requirements and work-related human skills can be described using a standardized catalog of characteristics and compared directly with one another. Any excessive demands identified in the course of the profile comparison enable the derivation of targeted measures for prevention and rehabilitation. IMBA can be used across industries and regardless of a person's diagnoses and qualifications.

The method comprises the following feature complexes

  1. Posture (6 main characteristics, e.g. standing, kneeling, squatting)
  2. Body locomotion (3 main characteristics, e.g. walking / climbing, climbing)
  3. Body part movement (5 main characteristics, e.g. trunk movements, arm movements)
  4. Information (10 main features, e.g. sight, hearing, touch / feel)
  5. Complex features (6 main features, e.g. lifting, carrying, pushing)
  6. Environmental influences (7 main characteristics, e.g. heat, cold, sound / noise)
  7. Occupational safety (2 main features, risk of accidents, wearing protective equipment)
  8. Work organization (7 main characteristics, e.g. working hours, night shift, isolated workplace)
  9. Key qualifications (24 main characteristics, e.g. drive, perception, ability to communicate, concentration, teamwork)

The profiling

To assess the requirements of a job (requirement profile) or the skills of a person (skill profile), different information is used.

The creation of requirement profiles can, for example, be based on the following sources of information:

  • Job descriptions,
  • Observations and measurements in the workplace as well
  • Surveys of employees, superiors and colleagues.

They are often used to create skill profiles

  • Information from the medical examination,
  • Self-assessment by the employee (e.g. PACT),
  • FCE method (e.g. ELA ) and
  • Work samples and psychological tests.

History of IMBA

  • In 1986, IMBA was developed by an interdisciplinary team as part of a project funded by the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs . The team consisted of the Ertomis Foundation, the University of Essen and the University of GH Siegen .
  • In 1997 the first manual for IMBA and the first software IMBA 97 appeared
  • In 2001 the second software implementation of IMBA took place - IMBA-Software 2000
  • In 2003 the software was revised and appeared as IMBA software 2003
  • In 2007 the software was completely revised, which is why the software was continued under the name MARIE (Matching Abilities and Requirements to Increase Evidence).
