The Berlin Senate Department for Integration, Labor and Social Affairs (SenIAS for short) is one of ten specialist administrations of the Berlin Senate with the rank of a state ministry and as such part of the state government as well as the supreme state authority responsible for integration , labor market and social policy in the German capital .

The current Senator for Social Affairs has been Elke Breitenbach ( Die Linke ) since December 2016 . It is supported by the two state secretaries Daniel Tietze (Die Linke) for integration and Alexander Fischer (Die Linke) for labor and social affairs.

Tasks and organization

The Senate Department for Integration, Labor and Social Affairs is divided into three main departments and a cross-sectional department for the central service:

  • Department I - Integration and Migration
  • Department II - Work and Vocational Training (including labor market, collective bargaining and qualification policy)
  • Department III - Social (including SGB II and XII as well as integration assistance for people with disabilities)
  • Department ZS - Central Service (including personnel and finances)

Berlin's labor and social senators since 2006

On November 23, 2006, the Senate Department for Labor and Social Affairs was newly formed from the work departments of the former Senate Department for Economics, Labor and Women and Social Affairs of the former Senate Department for Health, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection.
