Carola Bluhm (2017)

Carola Bluhm (born November 16, 1962 in Berlin ; Freundl married until 2005 ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ). She has been a member of the Berlin House of Representatives since 1991 and was parliamentary group leader from 2016 to 2020. From 2009 to 2011 she was a member of the Senate of Berlin for the first time as Senator for Integration, Labor and Social Affairs .

Education and employment

In 1982 she completed vocational training with a high school diploma and became a skilled worker for fruit production ( gardener ). From 1982 to 1987 she studied sociology at the Humboldt University in Berlin and graduated as a sociologist. From 1987 to 1991 she was a research assistant at the Institute for Socialist Economic Management and Light Industry at the Berlin School of Economics . In 1990 she was put on hold with a simple cover letter from the university. Half a year later she became unemployed.

Her daughter Marie was born during her studies, and her son Max in 1988.

During the fall of the Berlin Wall she became a member of the Independent Women's Association . She is a member of the Humanist Association of Germany (HVD).

Political party

From 1982 to 1990 she was a member of the SED , since 1990 she was a member of the PDS ; since 2007 member of Die Linke party.

MPs

In 1990 she was a member of the city ​​council of Berlin . In 1991 Bluhm became a member of the Berlin House of Representatives . From 1995 to 2001 she was one of the two group leaders together with Harald Wolf ; then deputy group chairman. From the beginning of the 16th electoral term (2006) until 2009 she was chairman of the parliamentary group. Carola Bluhm was directly elected in the constituency Mitte 2 . Between 2004 and 2005 she was a member of the Enquête Commission of the House of Representatives “A Future for Berlin”.

From 2009 to 2011, Carola Bluhm succeeded the retired Heidi Knake-Werner as Senator for Integration, Labor and Social Affairs .

Since the result of the Berlin election in 2011 a continuation of the Red-Red coalition was not possible, the SPD under Klaus Wowereit formed a coalition with the CDU, so that Bluhm resigned from office with the accession of the fourth Senate Wowereit together with the other left-wing senators .

After the Berlin election in 2016 , she and Udo Wolf took over the chairmanship of the parliamentary group on October 11, 2016 . She and Udo Wolf resigned this parliamentary group chairmanship in order to give the successors enough time to prepare for the 2021 parliamentary elections.
