The Senate Wowereit III formed the state government of Berlin from November 23, 2006 to November 24, 2011 .
After the election to the Berlin House of Representatives ( 16th electoral term) on September 17, 2006, both a red-red and a red-green coalition would have been possible. The SPD decided to continue the red-red coalition that had been in office since 2002.
