The Senate Müller I was on 11 December 2014 to 8 December 2016, the state government of Berlin . It was the 26th Senate of Berlin since the first Senate was formed in 1951. Six Senate members were men and three were women. Five members of the Senate belonged to the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and four to the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). The Senate relied on the parliamentary majority after the election to the Berlin House of Representatives on September 18, 2011 . In the House of Representatives election on September 18, 2016 , the coalition lost its majority.
Most of the senate members were already part of the previous senate under Klaus Wowereit . When Müller moved to the office of Governing Mayor, Andreas Geisel succeeded him in the office of Senator for Urban Development and the Environment. In addition, the independent Finance Senator Ulrich Nussbaum , appointed by the SPD , also resigned ; he was followed by the SPD politician Matthias Kollatz-Ahnen .
