Steffen Krach

Steffen Krach (born August 7, 1979 in Hanover ) is a German politician ( SPD ). Since December 8, 2016 he has been State Secretary for Science and Research in the Senate of Berlin ( Senate Müller II ).

Life, education and work

After graduating from high school in Hanover in 1999 and doing civilian service in Hameln from 1999 to 2000, Krach studied social sciences at the Georg-August University in Göttingen (2000-2002) and political science at the Otto Suhr Institute of the Free University of Berlin (2002 -2005). He completed his studies with a degree in political science .

After completing his studies, Krach worked in 2006 as a consultant for science, further education, research and culture in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate at the federal and European Union for the state representation of Rhineland-Palatinate in Berlin. In 2007 he became the personal assistant to the Berlin Senator Jürgen Zöllner in the Senate Department for Education, Science and Research. From 2008 to 2010, Krach was employed in the Department for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs of the Senate Department for Education, Science and Research. In 2010 Krach took over the management of the office from Jürgen Zöllner, the Senator for Education, Science and Research of the State of Berlin. He also performed this task from 2011 to 2012 under Senator Sandra Scheeres . Krach then moved to the federal level and headed the federal-state coordination office at the SPD parliamentary group from 2012 to 2014 .

On December 13, 2014, Steffen Krach was appointed State Secretary for Science in the Department for Education, Youth and Science of Senate Müller I by Senator Sandra Scheeres . He succeeded Knut Nevermann . After the election to the Berlin House of Representatives in 2016 , the areas of science and research were transferred to the area of ​​responsibility of the Governing Mayor of Berlin and the Senate Chancellery (Berlin) . Since then, the governing mayor has also been the senator for science and research. On December 8, 2016, Steffen Krach was appointed State Secretary for Science and Research by the Governing Mayor and Senator for Science and Research Michael Müller .

Steffen Krach is married and has two sons. He is an avowed fan and member of Hannover 96 (Hannoverscher Sportverein from 1896) and an active member of the club's tennis department.
