Ramona Pop (born October 31, 1977 in Timisoara , Romania ) is a Romanian - German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). She has been Mayor of Berlin in Senate Müller II and Senator for Economy, Energy and Public Enterprises since December 8, 2016 .

Life

Ramona Pop's maternal family belong to the Banat Swabians . In 1988, five years after an application for resettlement had been approved, she moved with her mother and grandparents from Romania to Münster, where her uncle lived. Her mother, a chemical engineer , divorced her Romanian father, who did not want to leave the country . Before graduating from high school in 1997, Pop switched from a girls' school to the Wilhelm-Hittorf-Gymnasium . She then studied political science at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and the Free University of Berlin until 2003 and graduated from the Otto Suhr Institute with a diploma in political science . Pop has Romanian and German citizenship .

Ramona Pop has been a member of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen since 1997. She held various offices in the party. From 1998 to 2000 she was a district board member in Münster and from 2000 to 2001 she was the national spokeswoman for the Green Youth .

MPs

Since November 2001 she has been a member of the Berlin House of Representatives (MdA), first as youth policy spokeswoman for the parliamentary group, then as deputy parliamentary group leader and labor market policy spokeswoman.

In October 2009 she was elected to succeed the parliamentary group leader Franziska Eichstädt-Bohlig , who had resigned for reasons of age , and formed a dual leadership with Volker Ratzmann until the end of the 16th legislative period (2011) . In September 2011 she won the direct mandate in the Mitte 1 constituency in the Berlin House of Representatives election . Pop and Ratzmann were initially re-elected as group chairmen. After Volker Ratzmann resigned from the parliamentary group chairmanship on November 15, 2011, Pop initially performed the function alone. From October 2012 to 2016, the parliamentary group was headed by a dual leadership made up of Ramona Pop and Antje Kapek . For the Berlin election in September 2016, she was number one on the state list , but the Greens competed as a team of four from the party and parliamentary groups.

Mayor and Senator for Economy, Energy and Public Enterprises

With the entry into the Senate Müller II as senator and mayor ex officio, Pop is chairwoman of the supervisory board of Berliner Stadtreinigung , Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe and Berliner Wasserbetriebe . She is chairwoman of the board of directors of the Investitionsbank Berlin , a member of the supervisory board of Messe Berlin and Berlin Partner for Business and Technology and a member of the board of trustees of the Berliner Lette-Verein .

Despite joining the Senate Müller II and a party congress resolution by the Greens to separate mandate and office, she does not renounce her mandate. As a senator, she cannot be a member of any specialist committee of the Berlin House of Representatives during this legislative period.
