Felix Banaszak (born October 24, 1989 in Duisburg ) is a German politician and has been the state chairman of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen in North Rhine-Westphalia since January 2018 . He was the spokesman for the Green Youth , the youth organization of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen . Since April 2016 he has been spokesman for the Duisburg district association of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen.

Life

Banaszak grew up in Duisburg. After graduating from high school in 2009 at Steinbart-Gymnasium , he completed his community service in geriatric care in Berlin and then studied social and cultural anthropology and political science at the Free University of Berlin. Parallel to his studies, he worked for Dirk Behrendt , then a member of the Berlin House of Representatives and today's Berlin Senator for Justice, Consumer Protection and Anti-Discrimination . Banaszak has lived in Duisburg since completing his studies in 2014 .

From 2014 to 2017, Banaszak was head of the North Rhine-Westphalian office of MEPs Terry Reintke and Sven Giegold in Düsseldorf.

Banaszak was a member of the board of the Solidarity Modern Institute from 2014 to 2016 .

politics

Since 2009 Banaszak has been a member of the Green Youth and Alliance 90 / The Greens. In 2011 he was elected as an assessor by the general assembly of the Green Youth and in 2012 as the political director of the federal association. On November 3, 2013 Banaszak was elected spokesman for the federal association. He did not run again at the 43rd Federal Congress in October 2014.

His focus is on migration , domestic and social policy . At the program party congress for the 2013 federal election, Banaszak was able to push through a motion for the Green Youth, against the will of the party leadership, which called for the use of V-people in the constitutional protection to be stopped .

Banaszak announced his candidacy for the 2017 federal election in March 2016 . He receives support from the Green Youth of North Rhine-Westphalia, which has chosen him as one of two top candidates, as well as from the Duisburg district association, which voted almost unanimously for his line-up. In terms of content, in the course of his candidacy for the Bundestag he would like to work primarily for an increase in unemployment rates and the reintroduction of the wealth tax. In October 2017, Banaszak announced that he was running for state chairman in 2018 and would replace Sven Lehmann , chairman of the NRW state association of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen. Lehmann no longer ran. At the party congress on January 20, 2018 in Kamen , Banaszak prevailed with 56 percent of the votes against his competitor, the state treasurer and Bochum local politician Wolfgang Rettich, and from now on forms a dual leadership together with Mona Neubaur .

Banaszak campaigns for the rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and trans * people (LGBT *). In June 2016, he was arrested during Istanbul Pride when he tried to protect Turkish activists reading a statement. After his release, he spoke of a “climate of fear” that prevailed in Turkey.
