politics

Schäfer has been a member of the Green Youth since October 2011. She came to the Green Youth through the protests against the 8-year-old grammar school. From 2012 to 2014 she was a member of the board of the Green Youth Munich, most recently as spokesperson. In October 2014 she was elected as a member of the federal board of the Green Youth. At the 45th Federal Congress of Green Youth, Schäfer was elected spokeswoman on October 31, 2015 and held this office until October 28, 2017. In her application speech in 2015, she advocated standing up for the fundamental right to asylum.

Her political focus is international politics.

In 2016, the Green Youth sparked a debate about patriotism in reporting on the 2016 European Football Championship . Schäfer feared that nationalism would consolidate society as a whole.

In the run-up to the Jamaica exploratory talks in 2017 , Schäfer was rather skeptical about possible government participation, warned against too much “government enthusiasm” and advocated more conflicts between the democratic parties.

At the beginning of 2018, Schäfer, who belongs to the party's left wing, announced that she was running for the national executive committee of her party. At the federal delegates' conference in Hanover in January 2018, she prevailed in a vote against Anna Cavazzini and has since acted as European and international coordinator and thus also as deputy chairwoman of the party.
