Paula Riester (born April 19, 1984 in Berlin ) is a German lawyer and politician . She was the spokeswoman for the Green Youth and sat from May 2008 to January 2016 for Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen in the district assembly of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg . Riester has been a judge since 2016 .

Life

Riester was born in Berlin in 1984 and grew up in Schöneberg and Steglitz. After graduating from high school in 2003, she went to Kathmandu for a three-month voluntary service , where she worked in a children's home . In 2004 she started studying law at the Free University of Berlin . From 2012, the fully qualified lawyer was employed by the Leibniz Association as a legal advisor . In 2016, Riester became a judge and (as of January 2018) is the personal assistant to Martina Gerlach , State Secretary for Justice in the Berlin Senate Department for Justice, Consumer Protection and Anti-Discrimination .

Since 2002 Riester has been a member of the Green Youth and the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party. From 2003 to 2004 she was political manager in the state board of the Green Youth Berlin and worked for some time as an editor for the Stingligen Arguments , the magazine of the Berlin state association of the Greens . In May 2005 she was elected as an assessor to the federal board of the Green Youth and in May 2006 together with Jan Philipp Albrecht as spokeswoman for the association. Together they sued against the use of tornadoes at the G8 summit in Heiligendamm in 2007 . However, the action was dismissed as inadmissible.

On May 25, 2008 she no longer stood for election as spokesperson for the Green Youth, her successor was Kathrin Henneberger . From September 2006 to November 2007 she was an advisory member of the party council of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and in 2008 represented the Green Youth in the Attac coordination group . In 2012 she was elected to the party council of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Berlin.

From May 2008 she sat for the Greens in the district assembly of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, from March 2011 as parliamentary group leader. At BVV she was a member of the committee for urban development, social city and district management, rents and the committee for the environment, climate protection, transport and real estate. When she switched to judge, she had to resign at the beginning of 2016.

In the 2013 federal election , Riester ran for fifth place on the Berlin state list, but missed the opportunity to enter parliament.

Riester has been a member of her party's arbitration tribunal since 2014.
