The Davis Sea , also known as the Davis Sea , is a section of the Southern Ocean off the coast of Queen Marie Land in Antarctica , between the West Ice Shelf and the Shackleton Ice Shelf . The Davis Sea borders in the west (81 ° 40'E) on the Cooperation Sea and in the east (95 ° 35'E) on the Mawson Sea .

It was discovered in November 1912 as part of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911-1914) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson . It is named after the Australian navigator John King Davis (1884-1967), the captain of the ship Aurora on this research trip . The Russian Mirny station is located on the mainland coast of Lake Davisse .
