The Mawson Sea is a section of the Southern Ocean off the coast of the East Antarctic Queen Marie Land and Wilkesland . It extends between the Shackleton Ice Shelf and Vincennes Bay . To the west (95 ° 35'E) joins the Davissee , to the east the D'Urville-See . The Mawson Sea is the confluence of the Scott Glacier and the Denman Glacier .

The name was given by Russian scientists. It is named after the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson (1882–1958).

The Mawson Sea has an area of ​​333,000 km², mainly on the continental shelf . The maximum depth is around 1000 meters. The strongly indented coastline is 820 kilometers long. The Australian research station Casey is located on the coast .
