Sven Lehmann (born December 4, 1979 in Troisdorf ) is a German politician ( Alliance 90 / The Greens ). From 2010 to 2018 he was state chairman of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen North Rhine-Westphalia . He has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2017, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth since December 8, 2021 , and the Federal Government Commissioner for the Acceptance of Sexual and Gender Diversity since January 5, 2022 .

Career

Sven Lehmann grew up in Troisdorf in the Rhein-Sieg district. In 1999 he graduated from the Zum Altenforst grammar school in Troisdorf. In 1999 he began studying political science, Romance studies and education in Cologne and Aix-en-Provence , which he completed in 2006 as a Magister Artium (MA). From 2005 to 2007 he headed the constituency office of Kerstin Müller , a member of the Bundestag in Cologne . Lehmann has worked at the Rhineland Regional Council since 2007 , most recently in company health management.

Lehmann is in a relationship with the former chairman of the Greens parliamentary group in North Rhine-Westphalia, Arndt Klocke .

Political career

Sven Lehmann joined the Greens in 1999 and was involved in local politics in Troisdorf , among other things as press spokesman for the Greens' parliamentary group, as a member of the local executive committee and as an expert citizen in the municipal social committee. In 2001 he was elected to the state board of the Green Youth of North Rhine-Westphalia, to which he was a member - interrupted by a year abroad in France - until the end of 2005, most recently as state spokesman for two years.

In 2006 Lehmann became a member of the state board of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Nordrhein-Westfalen for the first time, responsible, among other things, for the topics of Europe, children and education, as well as promoting young talent. From June 2010 to January 2018 he was state chairman and a member of the red-green coalition committee. When he was last re-elected in April 2016, he reached 92.2 percent.

In the 2017 federal election , Lehmann ran for the first time as a direct and list candidate of the Greens for the Bundestag. With 14.6 percent in the Cologne II constituency, he achieved the best first vote result of his party in North Rhine-Westphalia and moved into the Bundestag via the 4th place on the list. In the 19th German Bundestag Lehmann was a full member of the Committee for Labor and Social Affairs . He was also a deputy member of the finance committee . Within the Bundestag faction of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen, Lehmann was spokesman for social policy and, together with Ulle Schauws, spokesman for queer policy.

In the federal election in 2021, Lehmann won the direct mandate in the Cologne II constituency with 34.6 percent and thus moved back into the Bundestag. Since December 8, 2021, he has been Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth , Anne Spiegel . On January 5, 2022, he was named by the federal cabinet as the federal government's first queer commissioner .

Lehmann is a member of the non-partisan European Union Germany .

Honors

Aidshilfe Köln and the gay health center Checkpoint honored Sven Lehmann for his commitment to the lsbtiq * community, especially in the Corona crisis "for his demand for a rainbow rescue umbrella for queer clubs, associations and organizations" with the brooch - so called "sparkling thank you from the community". The campaign honors people, organizations and associations that campaign for the interests of the community with the help of campaigns during the crisis.
