Arndt Klocke (born February 11, 1971 in Bad Oeynhausen ) is a German politician and member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia . In May 2017 he was elected group chairman. From February 2006 to June 2010 he was state chairman of the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Career

Arndt Klocke grew up in Vlotho in the Herford district. There he attended the Weser-Gymnasium Vlotho , where he passed his Abitur . After doing community service in a severely disabled rehabilitation facility, he studied German and history in Münster from 1992 to 1998, and later political science, sociology and education, but did not obtain a university degree. From 1998 he then worked one after the other as an electoral district employee for the Greens Bundestag members Kerstin Müller and Volker Beck in their Cologne constituency offices.

As a school spokesman, Klocke was already committed to environmental and human rights issues and has since supported the work of Greenpeace and Amnesty International . During his studies he was involved in the green university group Uni-GAL and was temporarily a member of the student parliament of the University of Münster . From 1993 to 1995 he was AStA advisor for the areas of university policy, peace / international affairs and gay advisor.

Political career

In the 2005 state elections , Klocke ran for the first time as a direct and list candidate for the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia. With 18.6% in the Cologne III state electoral district, he achieved the best individual result of his party in North Rhine-Westphalia, but no state parliament mandate. His place on the state list was also insufficient for entry into the state parliament.

In February 2006 he was elected chairman of the NRW Greens together with Daniela Schneckenburger at the Essen Party Congress . In the state election on May 9, 2010 , he ran for 6th place on the Greens state list and as a direct candidate again in the Cologne III state electoral district. With 25.2% in this constituency, he achieved the best first vote result for the Greens in this state parliament election and entered the state parliament via his list.

At the state delegates conference on June 19, 2010 in Neuss, Klocke and Schneckenburger did not run for re-election. A re-election of the two would not have been possible due to the statutes of the Greens NRW, as they wanted to exercise their mandate in the state parliament. The statutes only allow one person on the executive state board to accept a mandate at state, federal or European level. Monika Düker and Sven Lehmann were elected to the new party leadership .

The Green parliamentary group in the state parliament elected Klocke as deputy group chairman. He was also the spokesman for transport policy and chairman of the committee for innovation, science, research and technology (AIWFT). He was also a member of the culture committee.

In the early state elections on May 13, 2012, Klocke was re-elected to the state parliament via the green state list. He achieved 25.5% of the first votes (26.2% second votes) in his constituency of Cologne III (Ehrenfeld / Nippes), landing well in front of the CDU and behind the SPD in second place and again achieved the best result for the Greens nationwide.

Klocke's political work with the Greens focuses on transport policy, university and science policy and civil rights. Since 2010 he has organized the monthly series “Green Cinema”, which takes place in Cologne art cinemas. He is also involved in anti-discrimination programs and for equal rights for lesbians and gays in the Lesbian and Gay Association in Germany (LSVD).

With 17.8% second votes in the constituency of Cologne III (Ehrenfeld / Nippes), he again achieved the country's strongest result for the Greens. On May 31, 2017, he was elected as the new parliamentary group leader of the green parliamentary group together with the Düsseldorf deputy Monika Düker without a dissenting vote.
