Poster from the 2008 state election campaign

Ludwig Hartmann first gained national fame in the state election campaign in 2003 with his poster "Again a Ludwig for Bavaria", alluding to King Ludwig II , which was also used in a slightly modified version for the state election campaign in 2008.

In 2004 he took part in a position paper by some Bavarian Greens, in which the introduction of downstream tuition fees is advocated.

Since 2005, Ludwig Hartmann has been campaigning for the preservation of the Frauenwald near Landsberg, which is threatened by clearing and conversion into an industrial area.

In winter retreat in 2017 his faction Ludwig Hartmann called for a ceiling on the sprawl in Bavaria: the daily loss of area in Bavaria for commercial areas, bypass roads and other construction projects should be noticeably reduced. Hartmann calls for a stop in land consumption and wants to introduce land certificate trading for this purpose.

On September 8, 2017, an alliance co-initiated by Ludwig Hartmann was founded for a Bavarian referendum “Curb the concrete flood - so that Bavaria stays home!”. The aim of the referendum was to limit the daily use of land across Bavaria from 15 to 5 hectares. The initiative collected enough signatures to initiate a referendum, but this was stopped by the Bavarian Constitutional Court on the grounds that it violated the principle of certainty , according to which the legislature must determine the essential matters itself and cannot leave it to the executive .
