Mathias Wagner (born March 29, 1974 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). He has been a member of the Hessian state parliament since 2003 and chairman of the state parliamentary group of the Greens since January 2014.

Wagner attended the Philipp Reis School in Friedrichsdorf and graduated from high school there in 1993 . After completing his community service in a hospital, he began studying political science and economics in Frankfurt am Main in 1994, which he graduated in 1998 with a degree in political science. From 1995 to 1998 he worked for Tarek Al-Wazir, member of the Hessian state parliament . In 1999 he went to Berlin, where he worked as a research assistant for the chairman of the Bundestag parliamentary group of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen, Rezzo Schlauch . He then became the office manager of the federal party chairmen Rezzo Schlauch and Fritz Kuhn .

Wagner has been a member of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen since 1995.

He has been a member of the Hessian state parliament since April 5, 2003. After running in the 1999 state elections in the Hochtaunus I constituency , he ran for the 2003 , 2008 and 2009 state elections in the Limburg-Weilburg II constituency , but was elected from the state list. From 2003 he was the political spokesman for transport policy and regional development, from 2008 to 2014 Parliamentary Managing Director and since 2005 he has been the education policy spokesman for the Greens in the Hessian state parliament. He is a member of the cultural policy committee.

In the state elections in Hesse in 2013 , he ran as a direct candidate in the Wiesbaden II constituency , was defeated by Horst Klee and entered the state parliament via the state list of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen. On January 13, 2014, he was elected by the newly elected parliamentary group of the Greens as their chairman for the 19th legislative period of the Hessian state parliament beginning on January 18, 2014. In the state elections in Hesse in 2018 , he ran in the constituency of Wiesbaden I , where he was defeated by the CDU candidate Astrid Wallmann , but was elected to parliament for the fifth time in a row via the state list and was again chairman of the Greens.

Wagner is single.
