Alexander Müller (born May 5, 1955 in Gerolzhofen ) is a German sociologist and politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ).

Life

After graduating from high school in 1974, Müller began studying law in Würzburg , but in 1977 switched to the department of sociology at the University of Marburg and began studying political science and sociology. In 1981 he completed his studies with an examination as a qualified sociologist. From 1981 to 1983 he worked on a project of the German Research Foundation .

Alexander Müller is a Roman Catholic, has been married since 1992 and has a daughter and a son.

Political functions

Müller joined the Greens in 1982 and worked for the Bundestag member Hubert Kleinert from 1983 to 1985 . From 1985 to 1992 he was a full-time city councilor for the environment and social affairs in Marburg . His department comprised the subjects of nature conservation, building yard, municipal utilities and the social, garden and environmental department. Then he was State Secretary in the Hessian Ministry for Youth, Family and Health under Minister Iris Blaul until 1995 .

In 1995 he was elected as a member of the Hessian state parliament. In parliament he was deputy chairman of the committee for information processing, data protection and administrative reform and from 1996 to 2000 chairman of the alliance green group. Due to his appointment as permanent state secretary , he resigned his state parliament mandate on January 25, 2001. Sarah Sorge followed him into the Hessian state parliament.

From January 26, 2001 until the end of the 2005 legislative period, he acted as a permanent state secretary in the Federal Ministry for Consumer Protection, Food and Agriculture .

From 2006 to 2013, Müller was Deputy Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), where he was responsible for the Management of Natural Resources and Environment. Since July 2013 he has been a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) in Potsdam and a member of the Council for Sustainable Development (RNE).
