Daniela Schneckenburger (born October 9, 1960 in Bruchsal ) is a German politician and was state chairwoman of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen in North Rhine-Westphalia from 2006 to 2010 .

Career

After studying German and Protestant theology in Heidelberg, Schneckenburger worked from 1990 to 1992 as managing director of a political educational institution, then as a teacher at a comprehensive school in North Rhine-Westphalia. On February 11, 2006, she was elected state chairman of the Greens in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Political career

Since 1980, Schneckenburger was initially politically active in various committees of student self-government at Heidelberg University. She was involved in the peace and women's movement as well as in the anti-nuclear movement . Since 1987 she has been a member of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen.

From 1994 she was a member of the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen parliamentary group in the Dortmund city council . Her political work focus was on social policy , she took over the function of the social policy spokeswoman of her parliamentary group since 1994, from 2000 she was chairman of the committee for social affairs, family and health as well as chairwoman of the family policy network in Dortmund. From 1997 she was deputy group leader, in 2000 she was elected group leader and held this function until the beginning of 2006. At the end of 2006, she left the Dortmund city council. For the 2004 local elections she was the candidate for the mayor of Dortmund.

On February 11, 2006, Schneckenburger was elected chairwoman of the Greens in North Rhine-Westphalia at the conference of state delegates in Essen. In addition, she continued to exercise the function of chairman of the supervisory board of Konzerthaus Dortmund gGmbH and deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Klinikum Dortmund gGmbH.

In the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2010 , she was elected to the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament via the state list of the Greens, to which she had been a member since June 9, 2010. After her entry into the state parliament, Schneckenburger did not run for the state chair again at the state party congress in June 2010 and left office on June 19, 2010. Since July 2010 she has been deputy chairwoman of the parliamentary group of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen. From June 9, 2010 to March 14, 2012 and from May 31, 2012 to April 13, 2015, she was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia and spokesperson for economy, building and housing. On March 5, 2014, she was elected mayor candidate for Dortmund, but was subject to the election of the incumbent Ullrich Sierau . In February 2015 she was elected by the city council as the new school and youth department head of the city of Dortmund. She took office on April 13, 2015. Due to the new office, she resigned her state parliament mandate on April 13, 2015. Karin Schmitt-Promny became a successor in the state parliament . In the local elections in 2020, she is running again for the office of Lord Mayor in Dortmund.
