Sebastian Striegel (born June 3, 1981 in Halle (Saale) ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). He has been a member of the State Parliament of Saxony-Anhalt since 2011 and was elected co-state chairman of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen in Saxony-Anhalt on November 30, 2019 .

After completing his school education (Abitur 2000) and a voluntary peace service with EIRENE in Northern Ireland , Sebastian Striegel initially studied modern history and political science at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena from 2002 to 2004 . In 2004 he began studying political science at the Free University of Berlin , which he graduated in 2008 with a diploma in political science .

In 1998 Sebastian Striegel joined the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party. He was a city councilor in Merseburg from 1999 to 2000 . From 2004 to 2008 and since 2012 he has been the district chairman of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen in Saalkreis and Saalekreis . From 2006 to 2011 he was a member of the state executive committee of his party. Striegel is a member of the right-wing extremism commission of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen set up by the federal executive board.

In the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt in 2011 on March 20, 2011, he moved into the new state parliament in fourth place on the list. In the state election in Saxony-Anhalt in 2016 on March 13th, he ran for second place on the alliance green state list and was re-elected. He has been the parliamentary director of his group since 2011 . He is domestic and legal policy spokesman for the parliamentary group.

In March 2015, Striegel called for “immigration to the point of popular death” on Twitter . The AfD in the Magdeburg state parliament then demanded that he be voted out of the parliamentary control commission, but failed because of the required number of votes.

Sebastian Striegel is Roman Catholic , married and has two children. He was appointed by Bishop Gerhard Feige to the Expert Commission Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation in the Diocese of Magdeburg .
