Cornelia Yzer

Cornelia Yzer (born July 28, 1961 in Lüdenscheid ) is a German manager, lawyer and politician ( CDU ). She was Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Government from 1992 to 1997 and Senator for Economics, Technology and Research in the Senate of Berlin from September 27, 2012 to December 8, 2016 . From 1997 to 2012 she was also the managing director of the Association of Research- Based Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (vfa).

education and profession

After Yzer graduated from the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium Lüdenscheid in 1981 , she studied law and economics at the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster and the Ruhr University in Bochum . She then held managerial positions in the environment and human resources department at Bayer AG in Leverkusen . From 1997 to 2012 she was the general manager of the Association of Research- Based Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (vfa). Yzer has also been an independent lawyer since 1990.

Yzer is active on advisory boards and supervisory bodies of companies, large research institutions and public institutions. From 2012 to December 2016 she was chairwoman of the administrative board of Investitionsbank Berlin (IBB) and deputy chairwoman of the supervisory board of Messe Berlin . In the past, Yzer was also a. 2012/13 chairwoman of the supervisory board of Berlinwasser Holding AG (BWH) and Berliner Wasserbetriebe (BWB), was a member of the corporate advisory board of Odewald Cie Private Equity (2012) and the advisory board of Management Circle AG (2008–2012), was a member of the Health Executive Board of the US data broker IMS (2002–2011) and on the European Advisory Board of the US medical device manufacturer Guidant (1999–2006), Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of the GMD Research Center for Information Technology (1995–1997), Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ, 1995–1997) , Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC, 1994–1997), Member of the Advisory Board of the Federal Network Agency (2012–2016) and the Television Council of the Second German Television (1994–1997), Deputy Chairwoman of the Presidium of Berlin Partner for Wirtschaft und Technologie GmbH (BPWT, 2012–2016), Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin (2012–2016), member of the full board of Jap Anisch-German Center Berlin (2012–2016) and in the German-Japanese Cooperation Council for High Technology (1994–1997).

Yzer has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Rationalization and Innovation Center of German Business (RKW) since 2014 . She has been a member of the Board of Governors of the John F. Kennedy Atlantic Forum since 2013.

Political party

Cornelia Yzer was a member of the CDU district board in Mark from 1984 to 1997 , and from 1989 she was deputy district chairwoman and city association chairwoman of the CDU Iserlohn . From 1984 to 1988 she was district chairwoman of the Junge Union . From 1985 to 1986 she was a member of the CDU state board of Westphalia-Lippe and the JU state board. From 1987 to 1999 she was a member of the CDU state board in North Rhine-Westphalia and from 1987 to 1991 deputy state chairwoman of the Junge Union NRW. From 1994 to 1998 Yzer was a member of the CDU federal executive committee .

From 1989 to 1991 Yzer was a member of the district assembly of the Märkisches Kreis.

Public offices

From 1990 to 1998 Yzer was a member of the German Bundestag as a directly elected member of the constituency of Märkischer Kreis I (North Rhine-Westphalia) . On May 3, 1992, she was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary to the then Federal Minister for Women and Youth Angela Merkel in the federal government led by Helmut Kohl . After the Bundestag elections in 1994 , she moved to the same position as the Federal Minister for Education, Science, Research and Technology and was responsible for the research fields of energy and the environment, aerospace, multimedia and biotechnology in particular. On January 22, 1997, she left office to become General Manager of the vfa.

On September 12, 2012, Frank Henkel , chairman of the CDU Berlin , announced that Yzer would succeed the resigned Sybille von Obernitz (non-party) as Berlin's Senator for Economic Affairs. Her appointment took place on September 27, 2012.

In April 2016, Yzer announced that she would not be available for government office again after the 2016 MPs election as she wanted to return to the private sector. After the election to the Berlin House of Representatives in 2016 , Yzer resigned from the Senate on December 8, 2016 when the second Senate Müller took office .
