Norbert Meisner

Norbert Meisner (born November 7, 1942 in Berlin ) is a German SPD politician.

Professional background

After graduating from high school in 1962, he studied classical philology and Protestant theology in Berlin and Bonn and then worked briefly as a teacher. This was followed in 1972 his doctorate Dr. theol. From 1971 to 1975 he worked as a consultant to the Senator for Family, Youth and Sport and then took on a position as a research assistant at the University of Education and at the Free University of Berlin , which he held until 1981. After that he was director of studies at the Youth Social Welfare Association until 1989

Political activity

Meisner has been a member of the SPD since 1963, where he was district chairman in Zehlendorf (1976–1982) and deputy state chairman of the Berlin SPD (1982–1989). During this time he was also a district councilor in Zehlendorf from 1978 to 1979. Since 1974 he has been a member of the International League for Human Rights .

In 1985 he was elected to the Berlin House of Representatives, but resigned his mandate after his appointment as Senator for Finance on March 16, 1989 under Walter Momper in Berlin. After Michaele Schreyer's resignation in November 1990, he also took over the " Environment and Urban Development " department, which he held temporarily until the election on December 2, 1990 . After Walter Momper's change of office to Eberhard Diepgen ( CDU ) on January 24, 1991, Meisner remained a senator, but moved to the “ Economics and Technology ” department and stayed there until January 1996. After that, he left the Senate at his own request.
