Sebastian Scheel (born December 7, 1975 in Wriezen ) is a German politician of the Die Linke party and Senator for Urban Development and Housing of the State of Berlin .

Life

Sebastian Scheel spent his childhood and school days in Frankfurt Oder . After graduating from high school, he moved to Leipzig in 1996 and studied political science , economics and philosophy at Leipzig University from 1996 to 2004 . He completed his studies with the academic degree MA rer. pole. from. In addition to his studies, he worked from 1999 to 2004 as a research assistant for Steffen Tippach, member of the state parliament . After completing his studies, he was elected to the Landtag of the Free State of Saxony for the first time .

He is divorced and has two children.

Sebastian Scheel got involved early on. First in the regional student council and during the studies in the student council . He joined the PDS in 1995 and, in addition to his studies, was a city ​​council member in Leipzig from 1999 to 2004 and on the city council of the PDS Leipzig from 2001 to 2003. In 2003 he became a member of the state board, from 2005 to 2011 he was deputy chairman of the state association Die Linke Sachsen .

From October 2004 to February 2017 he was a member of the Saxon state parliament and from 2004 to 2012 deputy chairman of his parliamentary group . There he worked in the budget and finance committee , in the home affairs committee , as deputy chairman of the 1st committee of inquiry of the 4th electoral term (topic Landesbank Sachsen ) and as chairman of the budget and finance committee of the 5th electoral term. From the beginning of the 5th electoral term he was spokesman for the budget and finances of his parliamentary group in the Saxon state parliament and from the beginning of the sixth electoral period until his resignation in February 2017, he was parliamentary manager of his group.

From February 14, 2017 to August 20, 2020, he was State Secretary for Housing in the Berlin Senate Department for Urban Development and Housing . The appointment was made at the suggestion of the Berlin Senator for Urban Development and Housing , Katrin Lompscher (Die Linke), by the Senate of Berlin .

On August 17, 2020 he was nominated by the state executive of the party Die Linke Berlin as the successor to the resigned Senator for Urban Development and Housing Katrin Lompscher and sworn in on August 20, 2020 in parliament.
